05:28 pm - "Avatar: The Legend of Korra" announced
Crossposting from a friend's journal (thanks ookapifeathers):
Short version: Nick has greenlight a new Avatar series called The Legend of Korra, the avatar following after Aang 70 years later.
Very excited to hear this. The original show was fantastic, and it would suck to end the Avatar legacy on that horrid live action movie. Can't wait for it to premiere.
(Guess avatarspirit.net is gonna see its traffic explode. Now if only TT would do the same.)

08:57 am - He Just Can't Wait to be King
The Lion King was, from the day I first saw it, an instant lock for one of my favorite movies of all time, no matter how old I got. And it held the test of time; to this day it remains my #1 favorite animated movie ever, and definitely in my top 3 of all movies. So seeing it in broadway musical form...well, let's just say it had a BIG name to live up to.
Having returned from it last night, really...I shouldn't have worried.
( It means that you are a baboon...and I am not!Collapse )
Bottom line, SEE THIS SHOW. It is worth every penny you invest in it. You will not be disappointed.
ARBITRARY GRADING PORTION OF THIS REVIEW: A.
No other musicals lined up for the moment.....maybe I should start posting some real content here now. XD

FINALLY A REASON TO USE THIS ICON.
So a while back when I reviewed Sweeny Todd I promised that Avenue Q was up next. At the time I had planned to see it that summer, but work knocked me off that horse and it wasn't until today, just over two years later, that the show finally came back around to my neck of the woods to let me make good on that promise. So it's about time to get that last depressing entry off the top of my journal and break down the wondrous spectacle of AVENUE Q: THE BROADWAY MUSICAL, under the cut.
( Don't let the neighbors stop you from havin' fun; they'll have peace and quiet when you're good and done.Collapse )
At the bottom line, if you have a good sense of humor and don't get easily offended by jokes about everything from race to suicide to gay sex and everything in-between, then don't pass up a chance to see this show if it comes your way, you will absolutely not be disappointed.
Arbitrary grading portion of this review: A-.
Next up: The Lion King, June 26th. SO EXCITED FOR THIS. Tempted to go in blind this time rather than familiarize myself with the soundtrack first.

R.I.P. Natasha Yochim
Beloved pet and friend
We got you as a kitten when I was seven years old. I honestly cannot remember a point in my life when you were not a part of it, and I and my family loved you for every moment of it. You were a wonderful friend and cat, I'm so glad that we were able to give you a long, full, pampered life in your seventeen years. I will miss you always.
God, I wish I had more pictures of you.

01:15 am - Writing meme!
As tagged by azelmaroark, who is probably the only person who will care about this entry. XD
1. How many words of fanfic have you submitted?
Well, I have SUBMITTED 331,931 words, but I have at least three oneshot stories (and an unfinished 4th) that I never posted to FFN, plus a handful of chapters to another fic that I have been too lazy to post, so....the actual total is closer to 355,000.
2. How many people have you on alerts?
113. Wow, I'm disappointing more fans than I thought.
3. How many people have faved you?
242. Jesus christ it's even worse here. I am sorry everybody that follows me.
4. Which fandoms do you write for?
I spent most of my time with Teen Titans, but I dabbled a bit into Kim Possible, did a Sailor Moon parody, wrote a couple of chapter-fics for a webcomic called El Goonish Shive, and am currently writing for......Pokemon, of all things. I'm such a dork.
5. How many stories have you written?
25 posted (one of which is a collection of 30 drabbles), 3 finished but unposted, one unposted AND unfinished, and two original novels, one unfinished. The other sucks.
6. Which story of yours would you recommend for people to read?
For a long time I would have said Thresholding, but not only is it unfinished, it feels rather amateurish to me now when I look back at it. So I'd go with my comedic stories like Comfort Zone or The Greatest Story Never Told, because they are actually still pretty solid laugh-riots even today; or the almost sickeningly-cute Rescue Me, in which Starfire adopts and must give up a kitten. Yes, that sensation you're feeling in your mouth is your teething rotting in sap.
7. Which story are you most proud of?
Once again I would have said Thresholding for the longest time, but a lot of it seems so amateurish these days, and I just can't honestly say that I'm MOST proud of a fic that I never finished. I actually have to say I'm most proud of my comedy fics again, because they've held up under the test of time better. Of particular note, aside from the ones mentioned above, is Mind Games: Redux, which has always had a special place in my heart because it's so unique from the rest of my fics, and not only did it win a fan-award for outstanding comedy, I think it was the fic in which I did the best job of keeping the characters...well, in-character.
8. Which one was your biggest challenge?
This one I can definitively answer Thresholding. I took on a massive idea with an even more massive potential scope, and quite frankly part of the reason I never finished it is because that massive scope simply overwhelmed me.
9. Which one had the most reviews?
Thresholding, with 554.
10. Which had the least?
A relatively new Pokemon oneshot called Pride, with 2. Doubt it will get much more than that, honestly, it appeals to somewhat....narrow tastes.
11. Which story do you feel deserved the most reviews?
Probably either Thresholding, or its predecessor Clash of the Titans because that was the point in my ficcing life where even though my writing wasn't what I'd call my best, I was writing at my most constant and consistent rate.
12. Which one are you most known for?
If I had to take a guess, I originally gained notoriety for the atrocious piece of crap that was Innocence Lost, but I probably became the most well-known in the ficcing world for Thresholding.
13. Which story was your longest?
Thresholding; even unfinished it was just over 100,000 words. Unless I count original work, in which case my first novel, Project: Savior, wins with 230,354 words.
14. Which story was your shortest?
If you want to count my Terra Drabbles individually, I guess any of those at 100 each. If not, Afterglow with a mere 1,053 words.
15. Which story was a surprise hit?
Probably Fan Mail. How the hell did a single oneshot get 118 reviews? o_O
16. What fandom are you most known for?
Teen Titans, without a doubt.
17. What pairings are you most known for?
Robin/Starfire and Beast Boy/Terra. Although one of my fics not posted to FFN gained me some fame from the Starfire/Terra crowd. XD
18. What is something you will never put into your story?
Robin/Slade rape. Sorry Azelma, but that's just something I have never and will never have any intention of so much as touching with a 39.5 foot pole.
19. What do you think your trademark is?
Probably this chibi-starfire avatar I use for just about everything I ever post on the internet.
20. Give us a hint of future stories!
Definitely would like to finish my current Pokemon fic, Divided we Stand, got some pretty epic plans there. After that, not sure....might do some more Pokemon oneshots along the way, possibly another EGS fic.....if my fans are lucky I might even find the resolve to go back and finish Thresholding too.
Wow, that all took way too long to write.

I knew South Park made its episodes pretty fast, but OH MY GOD HOW THE HELL DID THEY DO THIS IN 24 HOURS (link itself is work-safe, episode is not).
Realistically speaking about half of that episode could easily have been done well in advance, but still, a good portion of this episode could not possibly have been done any sooner than the last 24 hours or so before the episode aired, and good LORD I am AMAZED at how they did this that quickly.
Bravo, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Bravo. Truly nothing is sacred to you, and I applaud you to no end for it.

-A new microwave, because my old one is super-ghetto and disgusting
-An iPod Stereo Player/radio/alarm clock
-An assortment of clothes (who DOESN'T get at least a few of these?)
-Last Castle, Desperado, Ali, and FF: Spirits Within on DVD
-Futurama: Bender's Big Score DVD (yes, this movie is so awesome it deserved to be noted separately from the other DVDs!)
-Super Mario Galaxy for Wii
-Approximately $200 in cash and gift cards
Will post again soon with my new Wii friend code for all my fellow Wii-owning friends. Won't be as cool as my old one, I'm sure (goodbye old serial number beginning with 7777... *sniff*), but it will do.

Chapter 1 is under the cut. It is of the fanfiction persuasion, so if that's not your bag, then go ahead and quit reading now, but for whoever's interested, this first entry will be open to all, but subsequent ones will be friend-locked. |08:42 am - A Loser is Me|
So I was robbed last night.
Since I'm 99.9% sure it was my cheapskate roommate, though, technically, it's not 'robbery' or 'burglary,' but 'theft.' Whatever, all the same to me.
Things he took:
-Nintendo Wii and all related parts, plus Wario Ware, Super Paper Mario and a GCN memory card.
-PS2 with an extra controller, 2 memory cards, and about ten games, including four Final Fantasy games and Guitar Hero.
-Another seven or eight Gamecube games, including REmake and RE0, and Metroid Prime 1 and 2.
-My backpack, presumably to stuff it all into, which also contained a TI-83+ Calculator.
Thank the lord I had my computer with me at the time, or I'm pretty sure that'd be gone too.
He also owes me approximately $1,600 in unpaid rent, but that's a civil matter, so police can't help me there; however, I will have a very strong case in small claims court, which it would appear is a very likely course of action.
On the plus side, the odds of finding him and getting my stuff back are decent, since the police knew exactly who this guy is; apparently he has a sizeable criminal record already, including driving without a license, and a previous count of burglary, for which he was, in fact, on Post-Prison Supervision for. With any luck they can track him down and get my stuff back.
I know that a good chunk of this is my fault. I should have kicked this guy out months ago. Hell, I should have done a better job of screening people in the first place, which I neglected out of being so desperate for a roommate at the time. I should never have let it get this far. Damn me for not having a fucking backbone sometimes. -_-
Anyway. Just wanted to let you guys know. Whoever among you will care, anyway.

06:43 am - As Tagged by Daybreak
WRITER'S MEME: Sometimes it's okay to pimp yourself out. Post a list of the top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people.
5: All the Right Reasons, TT, Starfire/OC, K+.
Things that I write as gifts for friends tend to have a stronger feel in my mind...I dunno, maybe I try harder when it's meant to be a gift. Whatever the reason, though, this one in particular really speaks to me. It borrows an OC, Bard from one of my good friends from FFN, Lord Belgarion, and pairs him with Starfire, which seriously sounds like the biggest n00b mistake ever and I'm well aware of that fact and never expected very many people to like it, but Bard is just that damn endearing. And really, it was nice to try something different for once.
4: Rescue Me, TT, hinted RobStar, K.
This too was a gift fic, for another very good FFN friend, SocialButterfli. The overwhelming CUTE SAPPY LOVE factor of this story stil manages to bring a tear to my eye now and then, if only because I am such a sucker for kittens, and for Starfire. An idea that puts the two together, obviously, would just make me ooze sap, and this fic was the result.
3: Afterglow, TT, BBTerra, T.
Last gift fic, really, I swear. XD This one was written for Highlander2973, one of the biggest BBTerra fans beside myself. He majorly wins at writing BBTerra in a more mature light, and this fic was my attempt to honor him with something much the same. And how better to do that than with one big awkward moment following their first time in bed? ^_^ It's shorter than my usual stuff, but it's still pretty strong as far as I'm concerned.
2: THE TITAN CHRONICLES, Episode 1, Episode 2, and Episode 3 (in progress); TT, K+ - M, RobStar and BBTerra.
I really can't even begin to do this list without talking about this series, my signature fanfiction saga. Episode one was the first story I ever wrote, and so it will always hold a special place in my heart no matter how much I may come to think it sucks in the future. Episode Two was my attempt to redeem Terra as well as do a Terra-revival fic that DIDN'T totally suck ass, which was disturbingly common at the time. In the wake of the series finale, which aired long after this fic was completed, it holds extra power for me, as honestly, the series finale was a huge blow to me. And finally, Episode Three, my epic within an epic, which has been a part of my life for nearly two years now...damn, I need to finish it, and soon. XD
1: Twin Envy and Basic Instinct (in progress), El Goonish Shive, Elliot/Sarah and Tedd/Grace, T.
I'm sure many of you are probably surprised that it's a non-TT fic topping this list, but in all honesty, my passion is with this pair of fics right now more than any of my other projects (sorry, TH fans!) It's unusual as far as fanfic goes in the sense that it's fanfiction of a webcomic, which isn't too common, but in the case of this particular one, it's very well worth it. El Goonish Shive, for those who don't already know, is pretty much the best webcomic I have ever read, full of compelling characters and amazing plotlines, and it just reeks with fic possibilities, hence the birth of these two stories. I would HIGHLY reccomend to everyone to read the comic, even if you don't want to read my fics for it. It's just that damn good. As for the fics themselves, the first was inspired by a desire to give my favorite couple in the comic (Elliot/Sarah) some more focus, which they haven't gotten a lot of recently. The second was a brainstormed plot idea that I debated writing for a long time, but eventually couldn't resist doing, because I love Tedd and Grace almost as much as Elliot and Sarah. I'd tell you more about them, but that would spoil the fun, wouldn't it? =P
And that's my list.

01:41 pm - The Good People
Today was supposed to be a really shitty day for me.
And it certainly started out so.
I woke up at 4 o'clock in the morning, unable to get back to sleep. The silver lining in this was, of course, that it gave me the time I needed to write an English paper that I'd somehow procrastinated on until the very last minute.
After that was turned in with barely half an hour to spare, it was off to two back-to-back math midterms which, in the process of doing the paper, I had no time left to study for. They went decently, but not as well as I would have liked.
And to top it all off, somehow, between the midterms, I lost my iPod. The first thought in my head: I'd set it down for a moment, and someone snatched it while I wasn't looking.
I was quite honestly on the verge of exploding.
And then I find that someone had left a note right near where I had been sitting between the midterms, claiming to have found a lost iPod, and a callback number. In a matter of minutes I'd met this girl and she returned my iPod to me without a fuss or even asking for a reward. Just gave it back. Just like that.
I don't even know her name.
But thank God that I know now there are still good people in the world.
I still have a double-shift at work today to round out what should have been an awful day.
But y'know...I think I'm going to enjoy it for once. Because somehow this just became a pretty damn good day.
PS: Maybe it was me feeling generous after the fact, but not five minutes after the iPod incident, I passed a small fundraiser to help pay for surgery for a poor little kitten with a fractured paw, and I just couldn't NOT give to it. I don't think donating to a cause ever made me feel quite this warm and fuzzy. ^_^
